NORTH YARMOUTH — Departing town Administrative Assistant Scott Tilton, whose last workday was set months ago for June 30, told the Board of Selectmen on Monday that this Friday, June 5, will actually be his last day on the job.

“Things just got bumped up a bit. I have a new job in Washington state that I need to start at,” Tilton said Tuesday. “But the selectmen are holding interviews starting next week.”

Paul Napolitano, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, wasn’t happy about Tilton’s accelerated departure.

“I’m disappointed that he’s leaving so quickly,” Napolitano said Wednesday morning. “The beginning of the month is always a hectic time, and this is also a hectic time of the year in general. It would have been much better if he could have stuck around for a few more weeks. We’ll be shorthanded.”

The board on Tuesday appointed office manager Deborah Grover as the interim administrative assistant until a replacement for Tilton is found.

“(Grover) has been with the town for 26 years and is very capable,” Napolitano said.

He said the board will be interviewing five candidates for administrative assistant. Grover did not apply for the job and will resume her role as office manager when a replacement for Tilton is hired.
