SCARBOROUGH — Thomas V. Worthing, 81, of Scarborough died Sept. 3 after a brief illness. He was born in South Portland June 8, 1933, to Victor L. and Phyllis I. (Thomas) Worthing.

Worthing worked for Holmes Transportation for more than 40 year and retired eventually from Red Star Inc. For many years, he was also a volunteer member of the Scarborough Fire Department. He and his wife, Marie, spent winters in Florida, where he golfed several times a week and enjoyed friends and family.

Worthing was predeceased by his siblings, Arnold F. Worthing, of South Portland, and Joyce W. Chadbourne, of Danvers, Massachusetts.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie E. Worthing; his children, Sharon M. Worthing, of Scarborough, and Gary T. Worthing and wife Shelley, of Windham; his grandchildren, Jason L. Worthing and wife Nhi, of South Portland, Keith P. Worthing, of Windham, and Rachel A. Worthing, of Oxford; and siblings Grant W. Worthing and Janice Worthing Beety.

A memorial service was held at Hobb’s Funeral Home, in Scarborough, on Sept. 9.
