SCARBOROUGH — Thomas A. “Tom” Golding, 78, of North Yarmouth died Dec. 1 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with his wife Jeanne by his side.

On Dec. 8, 1930, he was born in Falmouth, a son of William B. and Lillian Smith Golding.

After graduating from Freeport High School in 1948 he joined the U.S. Navy.

During the Korean War he served as a hospital corpsman at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and spent the next 20 years with the Navy, retiring in October 1967.

Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked for  Regional Memorial Hospital in Brunswick, Pape Chevrolet, and as a mail handler and clerk for the U.S. Postal Service from 1984 until his retirement in 1996.

He was active with various community groups, including 50 years as a member of the Acacia Lodge 121 Durham, and was a member of The Grange, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the VFW in Yarmouth.

His interests included lobstering, hunting, R.V. camping, boating and gardening.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Malcolm, Eugene and James and his sisters, Elizabeth Dobson and Rosetta Vermette.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne Doughty Golding; four children, Sally Barter and Michael of Weston, Mo., Katherine Didyk and Donald of Manitoba, Canada, Thomas Golding, II and Bernice of Jacksonville, Fla., and Harland Golding and Lisa of North Yarmouth; five grandchildren, Serina, Shawn, Amy, Thomas, Ann Marie and Kaitlin; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Arlene Smith of Pownal, John Golding and Anna of Pownal, Dorothy Litchfield and Arthur of Harpswell, Evelyn Brine of Freeport and Wilma Ryder and Calvin of Linneus; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray.
