The boys’ hockey regular season has come to a close and one local team will take part in the Eastern Class A postseason, which begins this weekend.
The Brunswick Dragons closed the year with a 7-0 home win over Mt. Ararat last Thursday to wind up 9-9. The Dragons started the season 0-3, but battled back and will look to play the spoiler.
Brunswick wound up with the No. 8 seed in Eastern Class A and will host No. 9 Messalonskee (7-11) in the preliminary round Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
The Dragons edged the Eagles 3-2 in overtime on Jan. 26.
If victorious Saturday, Brunswick will battle top-ranked Waterville (17-1) in the quarterfinals Tuesday. The Dragons fell 4-2 at home to the Purple Panthers Dec. 20 and lost 4-1 in Waterville Feb. 10.
Mt. Ararat went 3-12-2 this season and wound up 12th in the Heals. Only the top nine teams qualified.
