Motorists creep along Maine Street during the Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival on Saturday, Aug. 21, an event that doubled as an experiment to close the thoroughfare’s middle two lanes. Town officials wanted to see if the closure would make Maine Street more pedestrian friendly. The closure drew mixed responses on the Brunswick Police Department’s Facebook page, with some commenters complaining about traffic. The experiment was part of the town’s Downtown Master Plan, which will propose several changes to make downtown more pedestrian and business friendly. The plan is expected to be unveiled in September.
