BRUNSWICK — A Cumberland teenager who police said was racing against another driver on Highland Road on Sunday night was taken to Mid Coast Hospital after his car crashed into a tree and rolled several times.

Police and rescue were called to the crash just after 10 p.m. Sunday, and found that the 17-year-old boy had been headed south in a 2011 Audi when he went around a turn, lost control of the car, left the roadway and struck a tree.

The car came to rest on its roof, Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Monday.

A 17-year-old boy from Portland, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry, also went off the road and was issued a summons for driving to endanger. He was uninjured, according to Hagan.

Further charges are possible, he said.
