BRUNSWICK — Sydney R. Woodbury, 72, died March 27 at her home with family at her side.

On April 23, 1937, she was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., the daughter of Bryant and Louise Locke Minot and graduated from local schools.

For many years she spent summers in Harpswell until she moved there in 1959.

On July 26, 1980, she married Alden Woodbury and moved to Topsham.

Her career was spent as a certified professional secretary, and over the years, she worked as an executive secretary for MSAD 75 and later for Bath Iron Works, and the Literacy Program until she retired in 1995.

A long-time active member of the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell, over the years she served as a clerk, a five-year term deacon, president of Women’s Fellowship, and was a choir member since 1961.

She had a passion for music, and in 1974 she was a founding member of the Oratorio Chorale of Brunswick. Additionally, she was a member of the Brunswick chorale, Society Gilbert and Sullivan, organizer of the Ecumenical Churches Festival of Lessons and Carols, a member of the women’s quartet Harpswell Sound,  and produced several Bath variety shows at the Chocolate Church.

Her other enjoyments included the family camp in Harpswell and her flower garden.

Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Alden of Brunswick; a daughter, Lynn M. Reid and her husband Ricky of Harpswell, two sons, David R Sparks, Jr., of Bowdoinham and Jeffery B. Sparks of Rockland; a stepdaughter, Victoria Ann Rochefort and her husband Ron of Dayton, and a stepson, Mark A. Woodbury and his wife Rosanne of Harpswell; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous cousins; nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the Elijah Kellogg Church, Harpswell Center.
