SCARBOROUGH — Susan Marie Berube, 51, of Scarborough, died Aug. 31 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Berube was born in Sanford, the daughter of Normand and Jeannette Berube. She graduated from Scarborough High School in 1982, and went on to receive a degree in cosmetology.
She later opened her own hair salon, First Glance, in Saco. She also earned a real estate license and operated Silver Star Realty in Saco. In 1992, she began working at Normand Berube Builders, and later ran the business.
Also in 1992, she and Keith Googins became a family when Susan became the stepmother of his two children, Kyley and Devin Googins. The birth of their daughter, Janelle Marie Googins, followed in 2001.
Berube enjoyed visiting Foxwoods and Oxford casinos, traveling to Florida, and most of all, spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her mother, Jeanette Mailhot Berube, and a brother, Paul Berube.
She is survived by her partner of 23 years, Keith Googins, of Scarborough; son, Devin Googins, of Scarborough; daughters, Kyley Googins, of North Carolina, and Janelle Googins, of Scarborough; father, Normand Berube and his partner, Marjie Dube, of Scarborough; brother, Raymond Berube, of Scarborough; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Sept. 4 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, in Scarborough. Interment followed at St. Ignatius Cemetery, in Sanford.
