Susan H. (Hirschberg) Linet MD, 58, of Freeport, died March 1, at her home due to complications associated with multiple sclerosis.

Born in New York City, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Medical Doctorate from New York Medical College.

Linet was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and had been in private practice with the Regional Health Center of Wilmington and Acton (Massachusetts) Medical Associates before moving to Maine in 2006.

She was an active member and served on the board of Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton, as well as a board member of the United Way of Acton and a consumer member of the Maine Long Term Care Commission.

Linet is survived by her husband, Paul Linet, to whom she was married for nearly 32 years; her parents, Ellen and Jerrold Hirschberg, of New York; two daughters, Ariel Linet, of Mt. Vernon, New York, and Sarah Linet, of Portland; and two brothers, Andrew Hirschberg, of Westport, Connecticut, and David Hirschberg, of Medford, Massachusetts.

The family wants to thank all of Linet’s caregivers and physicians who helped her face each challenge presented by the disease.

Memorial services were March 3 at Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton, followed by burial in Beit Olam East Cemetery in Wayland. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a fund in Linet’s memory to be used to assist families and caregivers in Maine and Massachusetts.
