PORTLAND — The Summit Project Honor Case, honoring Maine service members who have died since Sept. 11, 2011, is on display at the Portland International Jetport.

The display opened Dec. 4 and will remain on the third floor of the Jetport through the middle of January.

According to its website, the Summit Project was started in 2013 by Marine Corps Maj. David J. Cote, an Iraq War veteran and Maine native. To participate in the project, surviving relatives of deceased service members dig up stones that are then engraved and carried on hikes each Memorial Day weekend.

There will also be a special trek and reception at the Jetport at 9 a.m. Jan. 7. The public is invited, and those interested in taking part should email Judy Harris at jh@portlandmaine.gov.
