FREEPORT — Freeport Community Services is hosting a free event Friday, June 21, to kick off its Summer Food Service Program.

The event, which features pizza, balloons, games and prizes, begins at 11:30 a.m. at the center, 53 Depot St. It’s an opportunity to learn about the Summer Food Service Program, also known as Summer Meals.

Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations to provide free meals to children during summer vacation. Any child under age 18 is welcome to participate.

The meals will be served weekdays at 11:30 a.m. from June 24 to Aug. 30 at four locations: Freeport Community Services Teen Center, Morse Street School, Mast Landing School and the Village View Apartments Community Room.
