FREEPORT — As part of their senior project, Freeport High School students Hannah Skorapa and Jared Burns have organized a 5-kilometer road race – the Frantastic 5K – on Saturday, June 9, to benefit the food pantry at Freeport Community Services.

The race’s namesake, Frances Stevens, was Skorapa’s grandmother, who was very involved in the pantry.

“It’s my hope that this race becomes an annual event,” Skorapa said in a news release. “I want to continue my grandmother’s legacy of devotion and community service.”

The race will be held at Winslow Memorial Park, starting at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the pantry and then arrive at the park at 8:30 a.m.

Pre-registration is $20 per runner, with a $2.75 processing fee added at check out. Same day registration will cost $25. To register, visit runinarace.com

There will be free T-shirts for the first 50 to register, and free whoopie pies for all, courtesy of Betty Reez WhoopieZ.
