While the fall sports season is still in its veritable infancy, it’s become clear that we have some very talented athletes and teams in our midst. With the first full week (and then some) of the campaign in the books, here’s a glimpse at where things stand:

Football

Brunswick is undefeated at the quarter-pole, improving to 2-0 last Friday with a dramatic 22-20 win at Skowhegan. The Dragons return home Friday night to host Messalonskee.

Morse evened its record at 1-1 last Friday with a 7-0 victory at Gardiner. The Shipbuilders were coming off an overtime loss to Waterville. Saturday, Morse plays host to Camden.

Mt. Ararat is seeking its first win. The Eagles fell to 0-2 last weekend after a 55-13 home setback to Bangor. Mt. Ararat goes to Mt. Blue Friday.

Boys’ soccer

Brunswick hosted Mt. Ararat in a boys’ soccer showdown Tuesday and eked out a 1-0 overtime decision to improve to 3-1 (the Dragons had suffered a 1-0 setback at Lewiston last Friday). Brunswick (sixth in the Eastern Class A Heal Points standings as of Wednesday morning) plays host to Erskine Saturday and welcomes Morse Tuesday.

The Eagles fell to 1-2-1 (and ninth in the standings) with the close loss. They host Oxford Hills Saturday.

Morse fell to 0-3 a 7-0 loss to Erskine Saturday, but earned its first win Tuesday, 3-1 against Oxford Hills. The Shipbuilders (10th) host Cony Friday and visit Brunswick Tuesday of next week.

Girls’ soccer

The Brunswick-Mt. Ararat girls’ soccer game Tuesday also went into overtime with the Dragons also emerging triumphant, 3-2. Brunswick improved to 4-0. The Dragons (second in the Eastern A Heals) are home with Erskine Saturday and go to Morse Tuesday.

The Shipbuilders are 4-0 after blanking Erskine 7-0 last Friday and beating Oxford Hills 6-0 Tuesday. Six different players scored against the Vikings. Morse (fifth in Eastern A) welcomes Cony Friday.

Mt. Ararat fell to 2-2 (it had previously lost 1-0 at Edward Little last Friday) after the overtime loss to Brunswick. The Eagles (seventh in the standings) look to get back in the win column Saturday at home versus Oxford Hills.

Field hockey

Brunswick’s field hockey team took a 2-2 mark to Lewiston Thursday. The Dragons were 3-1 home winners over Morse last Thursday, but fell 3-1 at Brewer Saturday. Brunswick (seventh in the Eastern A Heals) is home versus Edward Little Saturday.

Mt. Ararat lost 2-0 Saturday at Bangor and fell 3-2 at Edward Little Tuesday and is now 2-3 on the season. The Eagles (10th in Eastern A) were home with Oxford Hills Thursday and play at Cony Saturday.

Morse is seeking its first win. Tuesday, the Shipbuilders lost 2-0 to visiting Cony to fall to 0-4. After visiting Brewer Thursday, Morse (13th in the standings) is home against Lewiston Saturday.

Cross country

Brunswick’s boys’ cross country team was first and its girls came in third at a meet at Lawrence last week. Morse competed at Belfast and its boys were first. The girls came in fifth. Mt. Ararat saw its girls win at Leavitt, while the boys came in third.
