The games keep getting bigger and the results remain encouraging for local squads as the fall sports season rolls on.
Here’s a look back at the week that was and a glimpse at what’s to come:
Brunswick’s football team improved to 2-1 last Friday with a 50-12 romp at Messalonskee. The Dragons will receive their biggest test to date this Friday when 3-0 Kennebunk pays a visit.
Morse got in the win column for the first time last weekend, downing visiting Lake Region, 27-20, to improve to 1-2. The Shipbuilders are at 0-3 Gray-New Gloucester Friday.
Mt. Ararat fell to 1-2 after Saturday’s 49-7 loss at Fryeburg Academy. The Eagles look to even their record Friday at 1-2 Gorham.
Mt. Ararat’s boys’ soccer team was 3-2 at press time following a a 2-1 loss at Brunswick and a 5-0 victory at Camden Hills last week. The Eagles host Oxford Hills Friday and welcome Hampden Academy Tuesday of next week.
Brunswick eked out a 2-1 home win over Mt. Ararat and tied host Bangor, 1-1, last week to take a 1-2-2 record into Tuesday’s home game against Morse. The Dragons were at Hampden Academy Thursday and host Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.
Morse settled for a 2-2 draw at Leavitt last Tuesday, then got in the win column and improved to 1-3-2 after a 6-1 home win over Oceanside Friday. The Shipbuilders were at Brunswick Tuesday and hosted Medomak Valley Thursday. They welcome Lincoln Academy Tuesday of next week.
Brunswick’s girls’ team beat host Mt. Ararat, 4-0, last Tuesday, then settled for a 2-2 home tie against Bangor last Thursday. The 4-0-1 Dragons were at Morse Tuesday, hosted Hampden Academy Thursday and visit Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.
Mt. Ararat won its first three games, but lost last week at home to Brunswick (4-0) and defending Class A champion Camden Hills (2-0) to fall to 3-2. The Eagles visited Oxford Hills Thursday and play at Hampden Academy Tuesday of next week.
Morse was 2-2-2 heading into Tuesday’s home tilt versus Brunswick following 1-1 draws last week against visiting Leavitt and host Oceanside. The Shipbuilders were home against Medomak Valley Thursday and welcome Lincoln Academy Tuesday of next week.
Mt. Ararat’s field hockey won its first five games, capped by a 2-0 home win over Brunswick last Thursday, then fell to 5-1 after a 2-1 home loss to Cony Saturday. The Eagles were at Messalonskee Tuesday and at Bangor Thursday and host Edward Little Tuesday of next week.
Brunswick fell to 2-5 following recent losses to host Mt. Ararat (2-0), visiting Mt. Blue (4-2) and visiting Bangor (6-5). After going to Messalonskee Thursday, the Dragons visit Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.
Morse was 4-2 at press time following recent losses at Gardiner (5-0) and at home to Leavitt (2-0) and a 2-1 victory at Erskine Academy. The Shipbuilders were at Belfast Thursday, visit Lincoln Academy Saturday and welcome Lawrence Monday.
The Brunswick/Mt. Ararat co-op volleyball team fell to 1-4 after a straight set loss at Wells last week. After hosting York Tuesday and visiting Kennebunk Thursday, Brunswick/Mt. Ararat welcomes Lake Region Tuesday of next week.
Brunswick’s cross country teams took part in an eight-team meet at Hampden Academy last weekend. The girls’ squad was second and the boys placed third.
Mt. Ararat joined seven other teams at Leavitt. The boys were first behind first-place individual Lisandro Berry-Gaviria. The girls’ team placed first as well.
Morse ran in an 11-team meet at Medomak Valley. The boys’ team was second and the girls did not score.
This weekend, Brunswick and Morse run at Leavitt and Mt. Ararat takes part in a meet at Oxford Hills.
Morse’s golf team completed a dazzling regular season with a perfect record of 10-0, capped by Monday’s 8.5-0.5 win over Belfast.
Mt. Ararat improved to 9-0 after Monday’s 7-2 win over Messalonskee.
Brunswick was a 6-3 winner over Lawrence Monday.
