PORTLAND — Former state Sen. Ethan Strimling was elected mayor of Portland Tuesday, defeating incumbent Michael Brennan and challenger Tom MacMillan.

The vote totals were 9,162 for Strimling, 6,882 for Brennan and 1,880 for MacMillan. By taking 51 percent of the popular vote, Strimling won without the need of an instant runoff.
