SCARBOROUGH — Stephen Shane Foster, 26, of Scarborough and Portland, died suddenly of an asthma attack on Easter Sunday, March 31.

He was born Oct. 6, 1986, in Portland, the son of Shannon Gorham and James Kaiser. He grew up in Scarborough, attending schools there and graduating from Scarborough High School in 2005.

Foster loved sports. Having played football in middle school, he was an avid fan of all the New England teams, especially the New England Patriots. He also loved spending time golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed his time at the summer “Foster Fests” at his grandparents’ summer home in Greenwood.

Foster had a giving heart and gave his all to those who knew and loved him. He was very close to his favorite cousin, Tasia, his aunt Brianna and his two cousins, Jackson and Gage, who called him “Uncle Steve.”

Foster lived most recently in Portland, working as a landscaper and plowing snow throughout the winter.

He is survived by his mother, Shannon Gorham, and her significant other, Howie Leighton, of Standish; his great-grandfather, Loring Newcomb, of Old Orchard Beach; his grandparents, James and Barbara Foster, of South Portland; his stepfather, Bradley Walker, and stepmom Joellen, of Florida; brother Cameron Walker and his son Braden, of Sanford; sister MaryEllen Young, of Arizona; grandfather Michael Gorham, of Portland; uncle Martin Gorham, his wife Marcia and children Christopher, Justin and Callie, of Westbrook; uncle John Gorham, partner Catherine and children Tasia and Christopher, of South Portland and Scarborough; uncle Joseph Gorham, wife Jessica and sons Talon and Gage, of South Portland; uncle Gregory Foster, of Massachusetts; uncle James Foster, wife Melissa and children James, Michael, Danny and Sophia, of Massachusetts; aunt Brianna, husband Jeffrey Whitehouse and son Jackson, of South Portland; his special “stepmom” Theresa Sargent, husband Bill, “little sis'” Haley and brothers Anthony, Justin, Kyle and Riley, whom Stephen also considered his family, of Florida; as well as a very large and much-loved extended family.

The family expresses special thanks to Shannon Gorham’s aunt Jaye Gorham and longtime friend Kristin DiBiase for all their help during this sad time.

A funeral for Foster was held April 5 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, in Scarborough. He was interred at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
