PORTLAND — The section of of State Street from Park to Cumberland avenues that has been closed since late August is expected to reopen by Dec. 15.

City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said major work related to the installation of new stormwater and wastewater pipes and drains, and associated utility work, is concluding.

“The contractor is currently scheduled to install base pavement on State Street and Park Avenue between Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. State Street will reopen to through traffic once the paving operation is complete,” Grondin said.

But the work is not over, Grondin said. Crews will continue to install sidewalks and curbs and clean up the area through Dec. 23. Drivers should expect some lane reductions as that work progresses.

Construction will resume in the spring when crews will set grade surfaces for manholes and valves, then install the final surface pavement and stripe the street, Grondin said.
