BRUNSWICK — The state Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled a late-March public hearing on a storm water permit for a proposed Amtrak passenger train layover facility.

The facility was proposed by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority in 2011, but has been delayed under intense pressure from residents who live near the property and by close scrutiny from government agencies.

The hearing is scheduled during the day on Wednesday, March 25, when NNEPRA and intervenors in the case will present testimony to the DEP. Comments from the public will be taken in a separate portion of the hearing in the evening.

Two groups, the Brunswick West Neighborhood Coalition, which has staunchly opposed the project, and Train Riders Northeast, a pro-passenger rail group, have filed as intervenors and will present testimony.
