SOUTH PORTLAND — City officials Wednesday received official certification from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development that South Portland is a Business Friendly Community.

The designation recognized efforts to create 13 tax increment finance zones to help fund infrastructure projects, use of block grants for economic development and municipal projects, and the creation of a revolving loan fund for housing.

The DECD also noted an “active partnership” with the South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber of Commerce and collaboration in workforce development and training programs at Southern Maine Community College.
