PORTLAND — Mainers looking to dispose of banned or unusable pesticides have until until Sept. 23 to register to drop them off at no charge.

The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Board of Pesticides Control and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection are collaborating in an annual effort to collect and dispose of unwanted pesticides at drop-off sites in Portland, Augusta, Bangor and Presque Isle.

There is no cost to drop off the pesticides, but online registration is required. Participants will be notified by the state about when and where to drop off the items.
