The 2013 spring sports season is underway and local schools have been busy.

Morse’s baseball team, a Western B semifinalist a year ago, won two of its first three games, handling host Maranacook, 10-3, falling at Lincoln, 8-6, then blanking visiting Medomak, 8-0. The Shipbuilders were home with Oceanside Wednesday, visit Mt. View Friday and play Belfast Monday.

In Eastern A, Mt. Ararat lost at home to Brewer in its first game, 4-1, then defeated visiting Oxford Hills, 2-1. The Eagles were home with Erskine Wednesday, go to Lewiston Friday and play host to Cony Tuesday.

Brunswick has started 0-3 with home losses to Hampden Academy (4-3), Bangor (8-1) and Oxford Hills (8-0). The Dragons were at Cony Wednesday, play host to Edward Little Friday and welcome Lewiston Monday.

Turning to softball, in Western B, Morse was 0-3 after losing at Maranacook (15-3) and Lincoln (12-0) and at home to Medomak (10-1). The Shipbuilders were home with Oceanside Wednesday, visit Mt. View Friday and play Belfast Monday.

In Eastern A, Mt. Ararat lost at  home to Brewer (29-2) and Oxford Hills (12-7) before getting in the win column Monday at Edward Little (4-2). The Eagles were home with Erskine Wednesday, go to Lewiston Friday and play host to Cony Tuesday.

Brunswick has lost at home to Hampden Academy (24-0), Bangor (14-2) and Oxford Hills (15-2). The Dragons were at Cony Wednesday, play host to Edward Little Friday and welcome Lewiston Monday.

Brunswick’s boys’ lacrosse team has returned to form, rolling to a 3-0 start behind wins over visiting Cony (16-5), host Edward Little (17-6) and visiting Lewiston (12-4). After hosting Messalonskee Wednesday, the Dragons go to Mt. Ararat Friday and host Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.

The Eagles lost their opener, 10-6, at home to Messalonskee (despite two goals from Jeremy Williams), then got in the win column, 6-5, at Edward Little (Kyle Lussier had three goals and Ed Maguire made 14 saves). Mt. Ararat was at Oxford Hills Wednesday, welcomes Brunswick Friday, then is at Lewiston Tuesday.

In Eastern B, Morse lost, 18-10, at Gardiner in its opener. The Shipbuilders hosted Camden Hills Wednesday and go to Lincoln Academy Friday.

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat opened with a 15-6 win at Oxford Hills. The Eagles were home with Messalonskee Tuesday and play at Edward Little Saturday.

Defending Eastern A champion Brunswick lost, 13-9, at Cony in its first game. The Dragons were home with Edward Little Tuesday and played at Lewiston Thursday. They host Messalonskee Saturday.

Morse hadn’t played a game at press time. The Shipbuilders were at Gardiner Thursday and visit Mountain Valley Saturday.

On the track, Mt. Ararat’s girls were second and its boys third at the recent Waterville Relays.

The tennis season is also underway.

Brunswick’s boys opened with a 4-1 win at perennial power Lewiston. The Dragons were at Edward Little Wednesday, host Mt. Blue Friday and welcome Erskine Monday.

Mt. Ararat lost, 5-0, to Mt. Blue in its first match. The Eagles hosted Erskine Wednesday, go to Edward Little Friday and visit Lewiston Monday.

Morse opened with a 4-1 win over visiting Medomak. The Shipbuilders were at Lincoln Wednesday, play host to Maranacook Friday and go to Gardiner Monday.

On the girls’ side, defending Class A champion Brunswick opened with a decisive 5-0 win over Lewiston. The Dragons hosted Edward Little Wednesday, welcome Mt. Blue Friday and play at Erskine Monday.

Mt. Ararat dropped a 3-2 decision at Mt. Blue in its first match. After going to Erskine Wednesday, the Eagles host Edward Little Friday and go to Lewiston Monday.

Morse was a 5-0 winner over Medomak Monday. The Shipbuilders hosted Lincoln Wednesday, visit Maranacook Friday and play host to Gardiner Monday.
