The games are getting more meaningful as the spring sports season roars past the midway pole and into the home stretch and that was reflected in recent days with several pivotal matchups. Even more loom in the days to come.

Here’s a glimpse:

Baseball

Morse’s baseball team was second to undefeated Greely in the Western Class B Heal Points standings at press time with a record of 8-3 after an 11-6 win at Medomak, a 6-3 home loss to Waterville and a 10-4 victory at Oceanside in recent action. The Shipbuilders were home against Mt. View Wednesday, play at Leavitt Friday and welcome Belfast Wednesday of next week.

In Eastern A, Mt. Ararat fell to 3-8 (and eighth in the Heals) after recent losses to visiting Edward Little (8-0) and host Messalonskee (8-1) and Erskine (4-3). The Eagles hosted Lewiston Wednesday, welcome Bangor Friday and play at Cony Monday.

Brunswick is also 3-8 and 10th in the standings. The Dragons lost, 5-1, at Oxford Hills, beat host Lawrence, 4-1, then fell at home to Cony, 16-6. Brunswick was at Edward Little Wednesday, plays at Skowhegan Friday, welcomes Erskine Monday and goes to Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

Softball

Mt. Ararat was 3-8 and was clinging to the ninth and final playoff spot in Eastern A at press time. The Eagles were coming off a 7-3 home loss to Edward Little, an 18-6 setback at Messalonskee and an 8-0 loss at Erskine. Mt. Ararat was home against Lewiston Wednesday, welcomes Bangor Friday and plays at Cony Monday.

Brunswick was 0-11 and 14th in the Heals after recent losses at Oxford Hills (21-1) and Lawrence (13-0) and at home to Cony (14-0). The Dragons were at Edward Little, play at Skowhegan Friday, welcome Erskine Monday and go to Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

In Western B, Morse was 1-10 and 17th after losing to host Medomak (8-0), visiting Waterville (7-1) and host Oceanside (13-1). The Shipbuilders were home against Mt. View Wedneday, play at Leavitt Friday and welcome Belfast Wednesday of next week.

Boys’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s boys’ lacrosse team continues to set the pace in Eastern A, improving to 8-0 with wins over host Cony (12-1) and visiting Edward Little (18-1). The Dragons were at Lewiston Wednesday, go to Messalonskee Friday and play host to Mt. Ararat Wednesday of next week.

The Eagles sat third in the region with a record of 6-2 after recent victories over host Messalonskee (8-4, behind three goals from Jeremy Williams) and visiting Camden Hills (6-3, Williams scored twice and Connor Read made 13 saves). After playing at Cony Wednesday, Mt. Ararat gets a shot at Brunswick next Wednesday.

In Eastern B, Morse is also 6-2 and fifth, after a 12-11 home win over Oak Hill and an 11-8 loss at Maranacook. The Shipbuilders host top-ranked Gardiner Friday and play at Camden Hills Wednesday of next week.

Girls’ lacrosse

On the girls’ side, defending Eastern A champion Brunswick was 2-6 and seventh in the region at press time. The Dragons lost close home decisions to Gardiner (11-10) and Lewiston (12-9). Brunswick was at Mt. Ararat Thursday, visits Morse Saturday and plays host to Cony Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat took a 3-3 record and the No. 8 spot in Eastern A into Tuesday’s home game against Morse. After hosting Lewiston Wednesday and Brunswick Thursday, the Eagles go to Mountain Valley Monday.

In Eastern B, Morse improved to 3-3 and fifth in the standings after a 20-5 home win over Mountain Valley Friday. The Shipbuilders were at Mt. Ararat Tuesday, hosted Lincoln Thursday, welcome Brunswick Saturday and play host to Edward Little Tuesday of next week.

Track

Morse hosted a six-team league outdoor track meet last Thursday. In the boys’ competition, the Shipbuilders were sixth, while Mt. Ararat came in third. The Eagles girls came in fifth and Morse was sixth.

Tennis

Brunswick’s defending Class A state champion girls’ tennis team improved to 8-0 with recent 5-0 wins over Messalonskee and Edward Little. The Dragons were second to Hampden Academy in the Eastern A Heals. Mt. Ararat was sixth at press time with a 5-3 mark. In Western B, Morse was eighth with a 4-5 record.

On the boys’ side, Brunswick was second to Bangor in the Eastern A Heals with an 8-0 mark. Mt. Ararat (1-8) was 10th. Morse placed ninth in Western B at 2-7.
