The early portion of the spring sports season has delivered some surprises and a lot of strong play and every local team has played at least once.

Here’s a glimpse.

Baseball

Brunswick’s baseball team won its first three games, capped by a 10-2 home win over Brewer, then fell from the unbeaten ranks with a 10-7 loss at Bangor. The Dragons were at Mt. Blue Tuesday and hosted Oxford Hills Thursday, welcome Mt. Ararat Friday and go to Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat fell to 0-5 after recent losses to host Brewer (8-5), visiting Bangor (7-2), host Oxford Hills (8-0) and visiting Mt. Blue (11-2). The Eagles play at Brunswick Friday, welcome Lewiston Monday and go to Edward Little Wednesday.

Morse is 3-2 after a 10-5 victory at MCI, a 7-1 home win over Erskine and a 6-5 loss at Winslow. The Shipbuilders were home with Camden Hills Tuesday and played at Gardiner Thursday. Morse is home versus Mt. View Monday and goes to Belfast Wednesday.

Softball

Morse is the only local softball team with a win at press time. The Shipbuilders lost their first two games by a combined 49-2 margin, but won at MCI (7-4) and at home over Erskine (8-5) before falling to 2-3 Monday with a 5-2 loss at Winslow. Morse was home with Camden Hills Tuesday and played at Gardiner Thursday, then is home versus Mt. View Monday and goes to Belfast Wednesday.

Mt. Ararat fell to 0-5 after recent losses to host Brewer (4-3), visiting Bangor (16-0), host Oxford Hills (10-0) and visiting Mt. Blue (7-3). After playing at Brunswick Friday, the Eagles host Lewiston Monday and go to Edward Little Wednesday.

Brunswick dropped to 0-4 after losing to visiting Brewer (5-0) and host Bangor (13-1). The Dragons were at Mt. Blue Tuesday and hosted Oxford Hills Thursday, welcome Mt. Ararat Friday and go to Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

Boys’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s boys’ lacrosse team is off to a hot 3-0 start. The Dragons’ most recent victory was a 10-8 decision over visiting Messalonskee last Wednesday. Brunswick was home against Oxford Hills and went to Cony Thursday. After hosting defending Eastern B champion Yarmouth in a crossover game Saturday, the Dragons welcome Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat took a 3-1 record into Tuesday’s home game against Messalonskee. The Eagles won at Edward Little, 6-4, last Wednesday, behind two goals from Jeremy Williams and 13 saves from Connor Read. Mt. Ararat was at Oxford Hills Thursday and plays host to Westbrook Friday.

Morse took a 3-0 mark into Tuesday’s home game against Gardiner. The Shipbuilders defeated visiting Massabesic (11-7), visiting Oak Hill (13-4) and host Camden Hills (10-9). After playing at Mountain Valley Thursday, Morse plays host to Lincoln Wednesday of next week.

Girls’ lacrosse

On the girls’ side, Brunswick opened with 9-5 wins over visiting Lewiston and host Oxford Hills. The Dragons were at Edward Little Thursday and host Mt. Ararat Thursday of next week.

The Eagles fell to 1-1 after an 8-7 loss at Lewiston Monday. Mt. Ararat hosted Messalonskee Tuesday and went to Cony Thursday. The Eagles host North Yarmouth Academy in a crossover game Saturday, welcome Oxford Hills Tuesday and go to Brunswick Thursday of next week.

Morse rolled over visiting Mountain Valley in the opener, 21-2, then beat host Camden Hills, 14-7, before dropping a 10-9 overtime decision to visiting Freeport Saturday. Maddy Olsen had four goals and Ruth Nadeau scored three times in the loss. The Shipbuilders were home against Gardiner Tuesday, go to Mountain Valley Tuesday of next week, then play at Oceanside Thursday.

Tennis

Brunswick’s girls’ tennis team, the defending Class A champion, started 4-0. Mt. Ararat took a 4-1 record into Tuesday’s match at Brunswick. Morse was 1-3 entering Tuesday’s match at Waterville.

On the boys’ side, Mt. Ararat was 3-2 and Brunswick 2-1 entering a showdown Tuesday. Morse fell to 2-2 with a 3-2 loss to Camden Hills Monday.
