Registration for Cumberland/North Yarmouth Babe Ruth League, for players ages 13 to 15, is open from now until April 24. An informational meeting will be held Tuesday at the GMS cafeteria from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Sickels earns two honors

Longtime Freeport High athletic director Craig Sickels was named the Maine Athletic Administrator of the Year and was given the 2009 State Award of Merit by the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators’ Association at the group’s annual state conference last week. Sickels has also twice previously received the MIAAA Special Achievement Award.

D-League team named
The new Maine entry in the NBA Developmental League will be known as the “Red Claws,” the team announced last week. The name was selected by the fans. The Red Claws begin play in November at the Portland Expo.

New soccer organization debuting
A new soccer organization, Maine Premier Soccer and Portland Phoenix, will launch at the Portland Sports Complex this month. Kicking off during April vacation week, all details are available at www.mainepremiersoccer.com

Falmouth Babe Ruth registration
Registration for the 2009 Falmouth Babe Ruth baseball season is underway. All boys who will be 13, 14 or 15 as of May 1 are invited to register. Those who played last year as a 13- or 14-year old must also register.

Casco Bay Sports offering co-ed spring leagues
Casco Bay Sports is offering several co-ed spring leagues. In April and May, a 6-on-6 soccer league, a Sunday flag football and a Sunday softball league will commence.

Free promotional soccer clinic upcoming
Freeport Recreation and Community Education, along with Challenger Sports, is offering a free promotional soccer clinic Wednesday, April 22 at the Freeport Middle School gym. U-4 and U-5 go from 12 to 1 p.m. U-6 and U-7 go from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. U-8 through U-12 go from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
