SMCC basketball teams remain competitive
The Southern Maine Community College women’s basketball team improved to 17-5 overall (7-3 in Yankee Small College Conference play) after romping at Unity (95-10) and beating visiting U. Maine-Presque Isle (89-51) in recent action. Abigail Nielsen had 18 points against Unity. In the win over UMPI, Alicia Hoyt had a team-high 19 points. The men’s team was 10-13 overall (6-4 in conference play) at press time after a 97-75 win at Unity and a 72-64 setback at UMPI. Jordan DeRosby had 22 points in the victory. Former Portland High standout Matt Talbot had 18 points and 11 rebounds against UMPI. The Seawolves hosted U. Maine-Augusta Wednesday and play at Dean College Saturday.
