SMCC fall season comes to close

The fall sports season at Southern Maine Community College has wrapped up for a pair of teams and is nearly over for the rest. Women’s soccer ended the regular season a program-best 8-1-1 (4-1-1 in Yankee Small College Conference play) after a 10-1 home drubbing of visiting rival Central Maine CC Tuesday behind six goals from Hannah Fields. Last week, the Seawolves edged visiting Unity College, 3-2, then blanked visiting U. Maine-Presque Isle, 4-0. The conference tournament play-in game is Saturday. The semifinals and finals are Saturday, Oct. 24, at New Hampshire Technical Institute. The men’s team split 3-0 decisions last weekend, downing visiting Unity College by that score and losing to UMPI. After hosting St. Joe’s of Vermont Wednesday, SMCC (6-5-1 overall, 4-1 in conference) takes part in the conference tournament starting Saturday. Baseball finished its fall season 6-7-1 (5-3 in conference) after dropping a 2-1 home decision to Bridgton Academy and a doubleheader at Dean College (12-4 and 6-5). Softball went 2-7. Golf competes in the conference championship match Saturday.
