SUBHEAD-SMAA football all-stars named

(Editor’s Note: Due to a distribution delay, these all-stars weren’t made available to The Forecaster until last week.)
Several standouts from Scarborough and South Portland were named to the 2008 Southern Maine Activities Association football all-star team. The first team offense included South Portland junior wide receiver Mike Foley. The first team defense included South Portland senior utilityman Matt Hebert. The York County first team offense included Scarborough senior offensive lineman Bill Gorman. Scarborough senior wide receiver Brendan Hamm made the second team offense. Scarborough seniors Garrett Alofs (back) and Brian Woodbury (tackle) made the second defensive team. The Cumberland County first team offense included South Portland’s Foley. First team defense featured South Portland’s Hebert at tackle. The second team offense included South Portland senior quarterback David Hardison. South Portland senior Ryan Skillins was on the second team defense at linebacker.

SUBHEAD-SMCC men now third in coaches’ poll
The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team is now ranked third in the Division II basketball coaches’ poll behind Williamson Trade and Central Maine CC. The Seawolves are 12-3 and tied for first in the Yankee Small College Conference. The SMCC women are ranked 14th. The Seawolves fell to 9-6 (they are still a perfect 7-0 in YSCC play) Tuesday with an 80-50 home loss to U. Conn-Avery Point. Sonya O’Tash had 14 points and Alyssa Henderson added 12.

SUBHEAD-Road race upcoming
Jimmy The Greek’s Frozen 4-miler will be held Sunday in Old Orchard Beach. The race starts and finishes at Jimmy The Greek’s at 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is $12 with no shirt and $18 with a T-shirt.

SUBHEAD-Frozen 5K race upcoming
The “Frozen 5K” road race will be held Jan. 25 at Scarborough High School. A kids’ race begins at 1 p.m. The road race starts at 1:30 p.m.

SUBHEAD-SailMaine seeks coaches
SailMaine is seeking coaches for the spring season. Teams practice three days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.

SUBHEAD-Casco Bay Sports winter offerings
Casco Bay Sports is offering co-ed Tuesday and Thursday basketball leagues with referees, beginning Jan. 20 and 22. Monday Night Social Runs (6 p.m.) and Wednesday Night Rock Climbing (6:30 p.m.) are also being offered.

SUBHEAD-Maine Elite Lacrosse hosting second session
Maine Elite Lacrosse is announcing a second session of girls’ and boys’ lacrosse, featuring a mix of instruction and game play for grades 2 through 8. The session will be held at YourSpace Sports and Recreation Complex in Gorham. Instruction will be held Sundays beginning Jan. 18 through March 22. Boys and girls in grades 2 through 5 go from 10 to 11 a.m. Boys and girls in grades 6 through 8 go from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Cost is $200 for the full session or $100 for half.

Maine Premier Lacrosse has limited space remaining in all divisions including boys’ youth 3, 4 and 5, boys’ and girls’ middle school and high school. Women’s adult lacrosse is also new.

SUBHEAD-YourSpace hosting pickup lacrosse
YourSpace, formerly Gorham Sports Center in Gorham, is hosting middle and high school pickup lacrosse on Wednesday afternoons. Girls play from 4 to 5 p.m. Boys go from 5 to 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per hour. A five-week league will begin Feb. 25.
