Deering boys run at New Englands

The Deering boys’ cross country team, fresh off a runner-up showing at the Class A state meet, traveled to Rhode Island Saturday to compete in the New England championship meet. The Rams came in 20th as a team (Staples, Connecticut was first) and posted the second-best score for a team from Maine behind Falmouth. Yahya Nure led the way by coming in 53rd for scoring purposes, completing the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 44.42 seconds. Also scoring for Deering were Alec Troxell (73rd, 16:52.90), Masho Gebremikael (99th, 17:09.57), Abdikadir Abdirahim (111th, 17:15.77) and Musa Abdi (164th, 17:41.79). 

Portland football Hall of Fame dinner next week

Former Portland High school coach Mike Bailey and former Bulldogs stars Frank Nappi, Kevin Fifield, Scott Alexander and Phil Laughlin will be inducted into the Portland High School Football of Hall Fame on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m., at the Italian Heritage Center.
