BRUNSWICK — A Southport man was charged with burglary early Thursday morning after police found him and another man allegedly attempting to break into a Five County Credit Union branch.
Joshua McCarthy, 27, remained in Cumberland County Jail on Thursday morning, held on $25,000 cash bail, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said.
Police responded at 12:09 a.m. to an alarm activation at the night deposit drop-off box of the credit union on Bath Road, Hagan said.
Officer Matt Swan found two subjects at the back of the building. The two individuals allegedly fled across railroad tracks into the adjacent Merrymeeting Trailer Park. Swan chased them and caught McCarthy, Hagan said.
Police called for a tracking dog from Windham, but a search of the area did not turn up the other suspect.
McCarthy was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on Sept. 17.
