Ridge honored during
teacher appreciation

SOUTH PORTLAND –  Bill Ridge, middle school social studies teacher at Holy Cross School, was recently recognized during Teacher Appreciation Month by the Coast 93.1 morning show. 

Ridge, formerly the Deputy Police Chief with the Portland Police Department, was nominated by Gillian Coates of South Portland, an eighth grade student at Holy Cross. 

Goltsova takes sixth
place in math meet

SOUTH PORTLAND – Southern Maine Community College computer technology student, Yulia Goltsova of Scarborough, came in sixth place out of 163 students in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges Student Math League Competition. Seventeen colleges in the Northeast participated. SMCC placed 6th in overall college ranking.

Round 2 of the competition will be held in March. The person with the highest score on the two math exams earns a $3,000 scholarship for continuing education at an accredited four-year institution.

Students of Scarborough Elementary School presented a quilt, pictured here, that was handmade especially for the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House of Southern Maine. The 27-inch wide, 62-inch long quilt was designed by the students and will hang on the Gallery Wall of the Hospice House for all to enjoy.
