South Portland student receives DiPietro Memorial Scholarship

The Portland Water District Board of Trustees awarded the 2013 Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship to Alyssa Marchant, of South Portland. Marchant will attend the University of Southern Maine this fall to study biology, with ultimate hopes to pursue a medical degree and a career as an anesthesiologist.

She attended South Portland High School, where she earned a 3.0 GPA. Currently, Marchant works at several jobs and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House. She is the first in her family to attend college.

The Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of respected businessman and longtime Portland Water District Trustee, Joe DiPietro. The scholarship serves students in the Portland Water District’s service area who are striving towards the same mission as PWD – protecting public health and the environment.
