PORTLAND — Tukey’s Bridge, which carries southbound Interstate 295 traffic over Back Cove between East Deering and the downtown Peninsula, will be partially closed starting Monday, July 8.

Traffic will be restricted to two lanes while state Department of Transportation crews pave the roadway. Work is expected to continue through the end of July, according to a DOT press release.

Work will take place during daylight hours, and motorists may experience delays as a result, the DOT said.

Escaping any delays that occur won’t be easy, since Baxter Boulevard, a customary alternative route around the other side of Back Cove, remains closed to through traffic during construction of two million-gallon underground waste-water storage tanks.

And starting Monday night and continuing Tuesday night, according to City Hall, final paving work will be underway on Washington Avenue from Veranda Street to Presumpscot Street between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. As a result, traffic on Washington Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
