SMCC announces Hall of Fame class

Southern Maine Community College will induct John Coyne and Craig Dagen into its 2009 Athletics Hall of Fame during a banquet Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at the HUB Athletics Center. Coyne was a point guard for the 1995 and 1996 men’s basketball teams which made back-to-back trips to the NSCAA tournament. Dagen played men’s basketball and baseball. He’s fifth all-time in men’s basketball scoring (with 1,078 points). Tickets are $20. FMI, 741-5927 or mrichards@smccme.edu.

SMCC fall season underway

Southern Maine Community College has commenced its 2009 fall sports season. Baseball opened with a loss to Bridgton Academy, then split a doubleheader with Vermont Tech. Dan Walker had the game-winning RBI. Men’s soccer is 1-4 to date, with its lone winning coming 2-1 against Navy Prep. The women’s soccer squad lost 4-1 to Thomas College and 8-0 to Lyndon State. The Seawolves golf team was third in the Yankee Conference match at CMCC, then placed second in match play at Loudon Country Club. Mike Walp shot a 75.

The Maine RipTide premier softball team is holding tryouts for the 2010
season Sundays Sept. 20 and 27 at the Greely Road Field in Cumberland.

USM offering baseball clinic

The University of Southern Maine baseball staff will hold a first
annual advanced baseball clinic Sunday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The clinic is for high school aged players who have aspirations of

Southern Maine Premier soccer holding tryouts

The Southern Maine Premier soccer program is holding tryouts for its
U-17 girls’ 2010 spring team Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at Windham

Scarborough offering fall cross country program

Scarborough Community Services is sponsoring a fall cross country program for boys and girls in grades 3 through 6. Practices will be held three times a week. Meets will be held on Wednesdays. The championship meet is Oct. 21. FMI, contact the Scarborough Community Services office.
