SPNLL Opening Day upcoming

The South Portland National Little League will hold its Opening Day ceremonies Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m., at the Little League fields on Pine Street. The festivities will include the introduction of the league’s teams and coaches. About 300 boys and girls from ages 5 to 14 are participating. The ceremonies will feature South Portland High School boys’ basketball coach Phil Conley, who guided the team to the Class A championship game. The festivities will also include “Slugger,” the Portland Sea Dogs’ mascot, and a South Portland Color Guard.

SMCC players honored

Southern Maine Community College baseball outfielder Michael Calabrese earned Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Week honors for April 1-7 after leading the Seawolves to a pair of wins. Calabrese tripled home a run and stole home in a win over Eastern Maine CC. Softball shortstop Antonetta Brown was named YSCC Player of the Week for the same time period after going 10-for-14 at the plate, including a 5-for-5 performance with four steals against EMCC.
