South Portland announces preseason practice schedules

South Portland High School has announced practice schedules for the start of the 2013 fall sports season, Monday, Aug. 19. Football goes from 7 to 10 a.m. and from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Wainwright Farms. Boys’ soccer practices from 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Wainwright, where girls’ soccer will also practice from 9 to 11 a.m. and again from 3 to 5 p.m. Field hockey practices from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Wainwright. Boys’ cross country goes from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the school parking lot. The girls’ team meets at the track at 8 a.m. Golf will practice at South Portland Municipal Golf Course. The time will be announced (check the school website). Volleyball is yet to be announced, while cheering meets from 12-1:30 p.m., in the park across from Beal Gymnasium. Student-athletes’ proof of a physical examination, a 2013-14 athletic contract, health questionnaire and permission to publish release forms must be on file in the athletic office prior to participation. Officials training course upcoming

The Western Maine Board of Soccer Officials is conducting their annual New Officials Training Course Saturday at the Gorham Municipal Center’s Recreation Department. The one-day clinic is followed by several on-field training sessions with seasoned officials. There is a small fee. Lunch and rulebooks are provided.
