SMCC continues to impress

Southern Maine Community College’s baseball team improved to 4-2 last weekend, going 2-1 in round robin action. The Seawolves downed New Hampshire Technical Institute (6-1) and Eastern Maine CC (9-2), while losing to the club team from the University of New Hampshire (6-2). SMCC went to EMCC Wednesday, plays two at Nashua CC Saturday and two at Navy Prep Sunday. Softball is 3-1 after a successful weekend. After beating NHTI, 5-4, and losing to Navy Prep, 13-0, the Seawolves swept EMCC in a wild doubleheader, 12-10 and 11-2. SMCC went to EMCC Wednesday and hosts two teams Sunday, Fisher at 11 a.m., and U. Maine-Presque Isle at 3 p.m. Women’s soccer (1-1-1) had a game vs. U. Maine-Augusta postponed Friday. The Seawolves welcomed U. Maine-Machias Wednesday, go to Unity Saturday and UMA Sunday. The men’s squad (2-3) also had a game versus UMA postponed Friday. SMCC was home with UMM Wednesday, goes to Unity Saturday and visits UMA Sunday. Golf was fourth at a meet versus EMCC, NHTI and Nashua CC last weekend. Chris Pierce shot an 83 to place eighth. The Seawolves host a meet Saturday.

SP volleyball fundraiser upcoming

A silent auction fundraiser for the South Portland volleyball boosters will be held Oct. 19 at J.P. Thornton’s. It goes from 5 to 9 p.m., at two bands will be playing.
