Scarborough soccer star earns multiple honors

Scarborough boys’ soccer standout Wyatt Omsberg received multiple honors at Sunday’s 40th Maine Soccer Coaches’ All-Star Banquet. Omsberg was named the Class A boys’ Player of the Year, All-New England and All-American. Omsberg also made the All-State team, along with teammate Sam Cekada. Scarborough coach Mark Diaz was named Western Maine boys’ Coach of the Year and was nominated for the Region 1 Coach of the Year of a large school program. The girls’ all-state team included Cape Elizabeth’s Phoebe Shields and Scarborough’s Ashley Gleason, Ainsley Jamieson, Sydney Martin and Hadlee Yescott.

Local runners named all-conference

Several Scarborough and South Portland cross country runners made the Southwestern Maine Activities Association all-conference team. The boys’ first team included Scarborough’s Colin Tardiff and Jacob Terry. Scarborough’s Andrew Sholl and South Portland’s Saadelin Zakaria made the second team. Scarborough’s Matt Aceto and South Portland’s Jack Salamone were honorable mention selections. The girls’ first team included South Portland’s Shannon Conley and Casey Loring. Scarborough’s Laura Volan made the second team. Scarborough’s Marisa Carbone was an honorable mention. Scarborough’s Kelsey Given and South Portland’s Conley, Maya Letourneau and Ariana Mohammad qualified for the All-Academic team.
