Foul shooting contest upcoming
The Portland Elks is holding its annual foul shooting contest Sunday at 9 a.m., at the McAuley High School gymnasium. Girls and boys will shoot in three different age categories. Winners advance the district shoot-off the following Sunday. FMI, 773-6426.
Swish-Out Cancer Challenge upcoming
The 20th annual Dr. Noel Paradise Memorial Swish-Out and Junior Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge will be held Sunday, Jan. 26 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. The tournament is a three-on-three, co-ed, double elimination event open to adults 18 and older. The entry is fee is $100 per team and all funds raised go directly to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. There will also be a Junior Swish-Out open to middle school students. Entry fee is $75. Running winter strength program upcoming
Maine Running Hall of Famer Brian “Ziggy” Gillespie, the cross country and track coach at Waynflete School, is holding an eight-week winter strength program for runners of all levels of ability from Jan. 8 through Feb. 26. Runners meet on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., at the Maine Running Company for easy 440s on the Portland Trails course and Saturdays at 8 a.m. at the Maine Running Company for a one-hour group run.
