SMCC keeps winning

The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team improved to 15-5 overall (9-1 in Yankee Small College Conference play) by sandwiching wins at Eastern Maine CC (74-69) and Northern Maine CC (115-67) around a 77-51 loss at Navy Prep. Against EMCC, Tong Akot had 20 points and Atencio Martin and Jose Nouchanthavong each added 19. In the loss, Alexander Hartford had 10 points. Nouchanthavong and Scott Proudman both had 16 in the win over NMCC. The women were 12-5 (8-1 in conference) at press time after an 80-46 victory at EMCC and a 66-57 loss at Navy Prep. In the win, Danielle McCusker had 16 points. Esther Palmieri had 18 points in the setback. The Seawolves hosted the University of Maine-Augusta Wednesday, go to U. Maine-Machias Saturday and welcome Unity Wednesday of next week.

Umpires needed

The Western Maine Baseball Umpires Association is holding certification classes for schools and leagues above the Little League level in Cumberland and York Counties. Classes run four consecutive Sundays beginning Feb. 9. FMI, 653-8736 or wmbua@maine.rr.com.
