Outdoor track all-state team named
The Maine Track and Cross Country Coaches’ Association recently named its all-state team, which included several local standouts. The girls’ first-team included South Portland’s Shannon Conley. South Portland’s Lauren Magnuson was an honorable mention. South Portland’s Michael Cuesta and Daniel Guiliani made the boys’ first-team. Scarborough’s Hugh McSorley was an honorable mention.
SMCC taking Hall of Fame nominations
South Maine Community College is accepting nominations through Aug. 25 for the 2014 Athletics Hall of Fame class which will be honored during a ceremony in November. SP youth football holding registrations
South Portland Youth Football is open to all boys and girls grades K-8, fall 2014. This is the only youth football program available in South Portland. Jeff King Memorial Golf Scramble upcoming
The 8th annual Jeff King Memorial Golf Scramble will be held Friday, Aug. 15 at 8 a.m. at the Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland. The event is hosted by South Portland’s football and hockey boosters in honor of the memory of the former Red Riots football and hockey player. The event raises funds for those two sports.
