SMCC fall action continues

The Southern Maine Community College baseball team began the week 7-3 (3-1 in conference) after sandwiching losses to Eastern Maine CC (6-5) and St. Joseph’s of Vermont (3-1) around a 4-1 win over St. Joe’s. The Seawolves played a doubleheader at rival Central Maine CC Wednesday. Softball romped at EMCC, 21-1 (in five innings) last week, then lost a doubleheader, 7-1 and 9-5 to St. Joe’s of Vermont to fall to 3-4 (1-4 in conference). SMCC hosted the University of New Hampshire club team Friday. Men’s soccer won at EMCC, 1-0, at settled for a 0-0 tie against Unity. The Seawolves (2-4-2) go to U. Maine-Machias Saturday. The woman’s team began the week 1-4-1 after a 4-0 loss at Unity Saturday. After a trip to St. Joseph’s College in Standish Tuesday, SMCC plays at U. Maine-Machias Saturday. Golf placed second at a three-team match. The Seawolves’ score of 377 was better than UMA, but not enough to catch host Great Bay CC.

SMCC goalie honored

Southern Maine Community College men’s soccer goalkeeper Spencer Hoyt was named the USCAA National Goalkeeper of the Week and Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 22. Hoyt has 22 saves for the season and boasts a save percentage of .854.
