SMCC baseball, softball fall in postseason tournaments

The Southern Maine Community College baseball and softball teams saw their seasons come to a close last weekend. Baseball reached the final of the NECA tournament, but lost to the University of New Hampshire’s club team, 9-4.  The Seawolves had defeated New Hampshire Technical Institute in the semifinals, 7-1.  Justin Ciszewski was named Outstanding Offensive Player. SMCC finished the fall season 11-5 (6-2 in the Yankee Small College Conference). Softball lost in the semifinals of the NECA tournament, 3-1, to UNH’s club team, to finish 4-7 (2-4 in YSCC play). The Seawolves women’s soccer squad beat rival Central Maine CC twice last week: 8-0 and 9-0 to improve to 4-5-1 (2-3 in conference). SMCC was home against St. Joseph’s College junior varsity Wednesday and closes the season Saturday at home versus Unity. The men beat CMCC, 2-1, and tied the Mustangs, 1-1, last week. The Seawolves (3-4-3 overall, 2-2-2 in conference) welcomed Eastern Maine CC Thursday and close at home versus Unity Saturday. Golf failed to qualify for the conference and national tournaments last week.
