Basketball team wins Senior Games title

Triple Threat, the Maine 50’s women’s basketball team captured the gold medal in the National Senior Games in California by beating a team from Colorado by four points in double overtime. It was the state’s first championship in basketball.

 SP boys’ basketball holding fundraiser

The South Portland boys’ basketball boosters are holding their second annual fundraising golf tournament Monday, Aug. 24 at the Old Marsh Country Club in Wells. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost is $100 per player, which includes green fee with cart, cookout and prizes. SMCC accepting Hall of Fame nominations

Southern Maine Community College is currently accepting nominations for
its annual Athletics Hall of Fame class. Nominations can be received

Portland Hurling Club seeks members

 

The Portland Hurling Club, a Junior C team affiliated with the Boston
Gaelic Athletics’ Association, will be playing 8-to-a-side with light
contact rules Saturday at 5:45 p.m., at Wiley Field
in Scarborough. Helmets and hurleys (sticks) will be available for

SailMaine seeking coaches

Come join us at SailMaine this Fall to coach a group of talented high
school sailors on Casco Bay. We are looking for competent, professional
coaches to coach one of our high school teams. Teams practice together
three days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. We are also looking for
assistant coaches. The season begins in mid-August and ends on Oct. 31.

MCU soccer tryouts upcoming

Tryouts for the Maine Coast United soccer team will be held Sunday at
Yarmouth High School’s turf field. U-12 and U-13 boys go at 10 a.m.
U-12 and U-13 girls, along with U-14 boys go at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m.,
U-14 girls and U-15 and U-16 boys try out. U-15 and U-17 girls, along
with U-17 boys, go at 2:30 p.m. Tryouts for U-16 and U-18 girls are at
4 p.m. Tryouts for the U-18 boys’ team will be held Aug. 12 at 6 p.m.
