SMCC baseball earns a pair of splits

The Southern Maine Community College baseball teams split recent doubleheaders against New Hampshire Technical Institute (winning 13-8 and losing 5-1) and Navy Prep (losing 7-3, winning 5-4). The Seawolves are 5-4 on the year. The men’s soccer team was a 2-1 home loser to NHTI and is now 2-5-1. The women’s team also fell 2-1 at home to NHTI last weekend and is 0-4. Golf came in second at Sunday’s Pease Tournament in Portsmouth, N.H.

Maine RipTide softball team holding tryouts

USM offering baseball clinic

The University of Southern Maine baseball staff will hold a first annual advanced baseball clinic Sunday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is for high school aged players who have aspirations of playing in college. The cost is $75. FMI, 780-5474.

Southern Maine Premier soccer holding tryouts

The Southern Maine Premier soccer program is holding tryouts for its U-17 girls’ 2010 spring team Sunday at 3 p.m. at Windham Christian Academy. FMI, 232-9384.

Scarborough offering fall cross country program

Scarborough Community Services is sponsoring a fall cross country program for boys and girls in grades 3 through 6. Practices will be held three times a week. Meets will be held on Wednesdays. The championship meet is Oct. 21. FMI, contact the Scarborough Community Services office.

Sailing regatta/fundraiser upcoming

SailMaine is hosting its second annual Leafer’s Last Leg regatta/SailMaine Soiree silent auction fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 17. Dozens of local high school sailors and seasoned sailing veterans will square off on courses outside Portland Harbor.
