Scarborough football falls to 0-6

The Scarborough football team hoped to earn its first win of the season last Friday night when it went to winless Noble, but suffered an 8-7 defeat on a defensive score and two-point conversion. Sophomore Matt Brown scored for the Red Storm who play their final two games at home: Friday versus Marshwood (0-6) and Oct. 23 against Kennebunk.

SMCC baseball, softball fall in conference final

The Southern Maine Community College baseball and softball teams both reached the final of the Yankee Small College Conference championships last weekend. Baseball was a 4-2 victory over Vermont Tech in the semifinals, then lost 8-3 to New Hampshire Technical Institute in the finale. Softball was a 7-5 winner over Central Maine CC in its semifinal, then lost 5-0 to the University of New Hampshire’s club team in the title tilt.

Former New England Patriots coming to Portland for flag football game

Former New England Patriots standouts Ronnie Lippett and Roland James will compete with the New England Patriots Alumni Flag Football team and take part in a game against the Cumberland County Sheriff’s P.A.L. and ECMG Saturday at 7 p.m. at Deering High’s Memorial Stadium. Proceeds from the game will benefit various youth athletic programs supported by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s P.A.L. A donation of $10 is suggested. FMI, alex@ecmgevents.com.

Portland Recreation hosting NBA/WNBA FIT Challenge

Porland Recreation will host the local competition of the NBA/WNBA FIT Challenge Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Riverton Community Center.
