SMCC names athletes of the month

Southern Maine Community College, in conjunction with Liberty Mutual, recently named David Nealley and Rachel Del Camp September Athletes of the Month. Nealley, from Portland, was the starting catcher for the Seawolves baseball team and hit .302 with a slugging percentage of .581. He also hit two home runs and drove in 15. Nealley is a sophomore majoring in criminal justice. Del Camp, of South Portland, was the starting shortstop in softball. She hit .412 with a slugging percentage of .853. She hit three home runs. Del Camp is a liberal studies-biology major.

SMCC wraps up fall season

Southern Maine Community College has finished its fall sports season. The baseball team went 10-6 and reached the Yankee Small College Conference championship game before falling to New Hampshire Technical Institute. Josh Mackie (of South Portland) led the team with a .417 batting average. Dan Walker (of Falmouth) went 4-1 to pace the pitching staff. Softball wound up 7-4 after losing 5-0 to the University of New Hampshire’s club team in the YSCC Final. Windham’s Darcey Webster hit .606 to lead the team. Men’s soccer finished 6-7-1 after losing 3-0 to NHTI in the YSCC championship game. Alex Jenkins led the team with six goals and three assists. Goalie Matt Richio made 109 saves and had a goals-against-average of 1.89. The women wound up 4-6-1 and lost to NHTI on penalty kicks in the YSCC playoffs. Morgan Crespo had 11 goals and one assist this fall. Taylor Graves added seven goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Kellie Melancon made 65 saves.

Kathadin field hockey club holding tryouts
