SP Little League registration upcoming

The South Portland National Little League is holding baseball registration Feb. 6 (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), 24 (6 to 8 p.m.) and 27 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) at the Community Center. South Portland coaching openings

South Portland High School is seeking a junior varsity girls’ lacrosse coach, Mahoney and Memorial Middle Schools need a girls’ lacrosse and a boys’ lacrosse coach and Memorial is seeking a softball coach for the 2010 season. FMI, 767-7705.

SMCC men rolling

The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team enjoyed a 116-63 home romp over Eastern Maine CC and a 108-77 home win over Holyoke CC this weekend. In the first game, Paul Holland had 19 points, Coleman Findlay added 17 and Mike Burchill and Mike Von Rotz both finished with 16. Against Holyoke, Holland had 20, Mackie 17, Findlay 16 and Kory Martin 13. Tuesday, the Seawolves improved to 11-9 with a 90-83 home win over Hesser. Holland had 22 points and Findlay added 16. The SMCC women also downed Hesser on Tuesday, 94-48, behind 24 points from Rachel Del Camp and 21 from Alisa Sweet.

New season for JO volleyball team

The Portland North 18-Gold Junior Olympic volleyball team began a new season recently in Hartford, Conn. The squad finished 13th out of 40 participating teams. Portland North features Erin Cadigan, Michaela Campbell and Sara Warnock of defending state champion Greely, Falmouth’s Kate Sparks, Emma Wilberg and Alyssa Yeung, Yarmouth’s Kate Darrell and Scarborough’s Abby Lalone.
