SMCC hires new assistant baseball coach

Southern Maine Community College has hired Jacob Kleckner as its new assistant baseball coach. Kleckner replaces Andy Wood, who is now coaching at St. Joseph’s College.

SMCC names Athletes of the Month

The SMCC Liberty Mutual Athletes of the Month are Coleman Findlay and Alisa Sweet. Findlay is a junior center for the men’s basketball team, a captain and a criminal justice major. He averaged 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in February. Sweet, a freshman small forward majoring in liberal studies, averaged 14.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in February, helping the Seawolves win the Yankee Small College Conference crown.

South Portland coaching openings

South Portland High School is seeking a junior varsity girls’ lacrosse coach. Mahoney and Memorial Middle schools need a girls’ lacrosse and a boys’ lacrosse coach and Memorial is also seeking a softball coach for the 2010 spring season. FMI, 767-7705.

Back Bay lax registration

Cape Elizabeth Fire Department hockey fundraiser upcoming

The third annual Cape Elizabeth Fire Department versus the Cape Elizabeth varsity hockey team will be held Saturday at 8:30 p.m., at the Portland Ice Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. All proceeds benefit the Engine 2 Company.

Boys’ lacrosse clinic upcoming

Laxpros and North Yarmouth Academy are hosting a free boys’ youth lacrosse coaches’ clinic Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at NYA’s gymnasium. The clinic is designed to help youth and middle school coaches understand the basics of lacrosse as well as new drills and techniques. FMI, bmeyers@nya.org.
