South Portland preseason practice schedule
South Portland High School begins fall sports preseason practice Monday, Aug. 17. Football practices on campus with a morning session from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Boys’ soccer practices at Wainwright Farms with a morning session from 9 to 11 a.m. and an evening session from 5 to 7 p.m. Girls’ soccer practices at Wainwright from 7 to 9 a.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Field hockey practices at Wainwright from 8 to 10 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. Volleyball meets in Beal Gymnasium from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cross country meets at the high school from 8 to 10 a.m. Golf meets at South Portland Municipal Golf Course at 8 a.m. Cheering meets in front of Beal Gymnasium from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Student-athletes must have participation paperwork, proof of a current physical exam and proof of insurance on file in the athletic office before participating. Summer Softball Slam upcoming
The South Portland High School Football Boosters will host the Summer Softball Slam, an adult co-ed sanctioned American Softball Association slow pitch tournament, Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Wainwright Fields complex in South Portland. The tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. and will conclude with the championship game at around 6:30 p.m. The tournament’s entry fee is $250. Jeff King Memorial Scramble upcoming
The 9th annual Jeff King Memorial Golf Scramble will be held Friday, Aug. 14 at Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland, beginning at 8 a.m. The event is hosted by the South Portland High School football and hockey boosters and honors the memory of the former SPHS student-athlete and raises funds for interscholastic football and hockey programs. Maine Basketball Hall of Fame golf tournament upcoming
The second annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame golf scramble will be held Monday, Aug. 10 at the Falmouth Country Club. Tee time is 8 a.m. The cost is $125 for an individual or $625 for a team. FMI, 504-6182.
