SMCC hoops teams back in action

The second semester of the 2014-15 season has begun for the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves. The women dropped an 84-83 heartbreaker at Briarcliffe, New York Monday despite 22 points from Amira Jones. SMCC (9-6 overall, 6-2 in the Yankee Small College Conference) hosts St. Joseph’s of Vermont Saturday and welcomes U. Maine-Augusta Wednesday of next week. The men (12-2 overall, 8-0 in conference) returned to action Thursday at home against Northern Essex. The Seawolves host St. Joseph’s Saturday and welcome U. Maine-Augusta Wednesday of next week.

Western Maine umpire classes upcoming

The Western Maine Baseball Umpires Association is holding baseball umpire certification classes for schools and leagues above the Little League level in Cumberland and York counties Sunday mornings beginning Feb. 8. FMI, 653-8736 or wmbua@maine.rr.com.
